Standard 1: Student will be able to use a language other than English for Communication.
Standard 2: Students will develop cross-cultural skills and understandings.
The NY State Board of Regents recently voted to eliminate state-wide Regents exams in Languages Other Than English, as a cost-saving measure, but to require Language Departments to develop equivalent end-of-basic-program exams that will serve to assess their students’ comprehension and fluency in the target language. The passing score for these assessments remains 65, except for students who take the exam at the end of their second year of study. For these students the passing score remains 85. As in the past, students who wish to attain a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation must take and pass this assessment.
